Partial Derivatives

If u=f(x,y) we can find the partial derivative of y keeping x as the constant or we can find the partial derivative of x by keeping y as the constant. Suppose f(x,y) = xy, the partial derivatives of the function are:

  • ?f/dx(xy2) = 3x2y and
  • ?f/dy(xy2) = x2y
