Based on these three functions the other three functions that are cotangent, secant and cosecant are derived.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the trigonometrical concepts are based on these functions. Hence, to understand trigonometry further we need to learn these functions and their respective formulas at first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If \u03b8 is the angle in a right-angled triangle, then&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sin \u03b8 = Perpendicular\/Hypotenuse<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cos \u03b8 = Base\/Hypotenuse<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tan \u03b8 = Perpendicular\/Base<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perpendicular is the side opposite to the angle \u03b8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The base is the adjacent side to the angle \u03b8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hypotenuse is the side opposite to the right angle<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other three functions i.e. cot, sec and cosec depend on tan, cos and sin respectively, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cot \u03b8 = 1\/tan \u03b8<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sec \u03b8 = 1\/cos \u03b8<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cosec \u03b8 = 1\/sin \u03b8<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cot \u03b8 = Base\/Perpendicualr<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sec \u03b8 = Hypotenuse\/Base<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cosec \u03b8 = Hypotenuse\/Perpendicular<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The three basic functions in trigonometry are sine, cosine and tangent.
