They can be defined as\u00a0piecewise-defined-functions\u00a0or as formulas. When we define f(x) = \u221ax, for x \u2265 0, then the inputs are the numbers that we provide and the &#8216;taking square root&#8217; function accepts all non-negative real numbers and gets the output as f(x). Most often it is a formula, as in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>g(x)={2xx&lt;0x2x\u22650g(x)={2xx&lt;0x2x\u22650<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>where the domain of g = all real numbers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A function in math can be represented as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>a set of ordered pairs<\/li><li>an arrow diagram<\/li><li>a table form<\/li><li>a graphical form<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;f(x) = x<sup>2<\/sup>\u00a0&#8221; is the general manner to represent a function. It is said as f of x is equal to x square. This is represented as f = {(1,1), (2,4), (3,9)}. The\u00a0domain and range of a function\u00a0is given as D= {1, 2, 3}, R={1,4, 9}.
