Normally conditional sentences are called conditionals<\/strong>. These sentences usually contain the conjunction IF.<\/em><\/strong> Sometimes  they are called ‘if clauses’<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Types of Conditionals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are mainly two types of conditionals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • The Real Conditionals and<\/li>
  • The Unreal Conditionals<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The real conditionals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The real conditionals express factual or habitual conditions which have the possibility to occur in the future or generally occur in the present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • I\u2019ll go if you give me the ball.<\/li>
    • If I feel better, I\u2019ll certainly play.<\/li>
    • If you do well in the exams, I\u2019ll buy you a gift.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Structures of the Real Conditionals:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      For Future Conditions<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
      If + <\/em><\/strong>subject + simple present tense + subject + will\/can\/may\/must + verb in base form. . .<\/strong>
      Subject + will\/can\/may\/must + verb in base form. . . + if +<\/em> subject + simple present tense<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
      Example:<\/strong>
      If<\/em> I have the money, I will buy a new phone.I can make you cry if<\/em> you keep doing that.If<\/em> he goes there, he may get robbed.If<\/em> you go outside, you must wear heavy clothes.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
      For Habitual Conditions<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
      If + <\/em><\/strong>subject + simple present tense + subject + simple present tense. . .<\/strong>
      Subject + simple present tense + if <\/em>+ subject + simple present tense. .<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
      Example:<\/strong>
      If<\/em> I have the money, I always buy the necessary things.If<\/em> Alex gets a break, he usually calls me.He works hard if the payment is good.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
      For Commands<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
      If + <\/em><\/strong>subject + simple present tense + command form (simple present) . . . . .<\/strong>
      Command form (simple present). . . . .  + if<\/em> + subject + simple present tense.<\/strong> <\/td><\/tr>
      Example:<\/strong>
      If<\/em> you have the money, use it wisely.Please call me if<\/em> you get a chance.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

      The unreal conditionals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      The unreal conditionals<\/strong> express hypothetical conditions which have no possibility to occur in the past, present or future but describe what could\/might have occurred supposedly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • If I were rich, I would travel my whole life.<\/li>
      • If I had a car, I could go anywhere.<\/li>
      • If we had not missed the train, we would have reached the city.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Structures of Unreal Conditionals:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
        For Present\/Future Conditions<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
        If + <\/em><\/strong>subject + simple past tense + subject + would\/could\/might + verb in base form. . .<\/strong>
        subject + would\/could\/might + verb in base form + if +<\/em> subject + simple past tense<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
        Example:<\/strong>
        If<\/em> I had the money, I would buy a new phone.If<\/em> I were the president, I would not support war policies.If<\/em> he were not ill, he could come with us.If<\/em> I could play tomorrow, I would definitely win the match.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
        For Past Conditions<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
        If + <\/em><\/strong>subject + past perfect tense + subject + would\/could\/might + have+ verb in past particple form<\/strong>
        Subject + would\/could\/might + have + verb in past participle form + if +<\/em> subject + simple past tense<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
        Example:<\/strong>
        If<\/em> I had played well, we would have won the match.I could have caught you if<\/em> you had been a little closer.If<\/em> he had written well, I could have given him a better mark.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

        Note: <\/strong>There is another structure of unreal conditional which does not use the conjunction if<\/em><\/strong>. Had<\/em><\/strong> replaces if<\/em><\/strong> and creates a conditional sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Had<\/em><\/strong> + subject + verb in past participle + subject + would\/could\/might + have + verb in past particple<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
        Example:<\/strong>
