Symptoms often last about 1 week.<\/li><li>There is no cure for the common cold. The goal of treatment is to ease symptoms until your child feels better.<\/li><li>Colds can be prevented by washing hands often.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next steps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tips to help you get the most from a visit to your child\u2019s healthcare provider:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Know the reason for the visit and what you want to happen.<\/li><li>Before your visit, write down questions you want answered.<\/li><li>At the visit, write down the name of a new diagnosis, and any new medicines, treatments, or tests. Also write down any new instructions your provider gives you for your child.<\/li><li>Know why a new medicine or treatment is prescribed and how it will help your child. Also know what the side effects are.<\/li><li>Ask if your child\u2019s condition can be treated in other ways.<\/li><li>Know why a test or procedure is recommended and what the results could mean.<\/li><li>Know what to expect if your child does not take the medicine or have the test or procedure.<\/li><li>If your child has a follow-up appointment, write down the date, time, and purpose for that visit.<\/li><li>Know how you can contact your child\u2019s provider after office hours.
