Psoriasis\u00a0may affect the skin\u00a0of children and adults differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the symptoms that help distinguish psoriasis from other conditions in children include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>nail pitting\u00a0or discoloration<\/li><li>itching, pain, or general discomfort<\/li><li>severe scales\u00a0on the scalp<\/li><li>dermatitis\u00a0around the area of a diaper<\/li><li>plaques similar to those of adult psoriasis on the arms, legs, and trunk<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If a rash or lesion does not respond to over-the-counter (OTC) treatments, its cause may be an underlying\u00a0inflammatory condition. Psoriasis might strongly resemble\u00a0eczema\u00a0or\u00a0seborrheic dermatitis, so close observation is necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>Differences between child and adult psoriasis<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The most significant difference between adult and child psoriasis is simply the age of onset. Otherwise, a child with psoriasis may experience many of the same symptoms and triggers as an adult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other potential differences in children include a\u00a0more significant psychological impact due to the stage of their social development when onset occurs.
