{"id":7108,"date":"2022-08-29T17:50:28","date_gmt":"2022-08-29T17:50:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mdr.foobrdigital.com\/?p=7108"},"modified":"2022-08-29T17:50:28","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T17:50:28","slug":"causes-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mudassirbackup.infinitycodestudio.com\/index.php\/2022\/08\/29\/causes-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Causes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Cellulitis is usually\u00a0the result of\u00a0bacteria from the\u00a0<em>Streptococcus<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Staphylococcus<\/em>\u00a0groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These bacteria are common on the surface of the skin, where they are not harmful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if they enter the skin, usually through a cut or scratch, they can\u00a0cause\u00a0an infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cellulitis is not usually contagious but can be spread through contact if a person with an open wound touches skin that has an active infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Risk factors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Factors that can increase the risk of cellulitis include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Age:<\/strong>\u00a0Cellulitis is more likely to\u00a0occur during or after middle age.<\/li><li><strong>Obesity:<\/strong>\u00a0Cellulitis is more common among people who have excess weight or\u00a0obesity.<\/li><li><strong>Leg issues:<\/strong>\u00a0Swelling (edema) and ulceration can increase the risk of developing the infection.<\/li><li><strong>Past cellulitis:<\/strong>\u00a0Research suggests that anyone who has had cellulitis before has an\u00a08\u201320%\u00a0chance of it returning, and the infection can reoccur several times within a year.<\/li><li><strong>Exposure to environmental factors:<\/strong>\u00a0These include polluted water and some animals, including fish and reptiles.<\/li><li><strong>Other skin issues:<\/strong>\u00a0Chickenpox,\u00a0eczema, athlete\u2019s foot, abscesses, and other skin conditions can\u00a0increase the risk of bacteria entering the body.<\/li><li><strong>Lymphedema:<\/strong>\u00a0This can lead to swollen skin that can crack and allow bacteria to enter.<\/li><li><strong>Other conditions:<\/strong>\u00a0People with liver or kidney disease have a higher risk of developing cellulitis.<\/li><li><strong>Diabetes:<\/strong>\u00a0If a person is not able to manage their\u00a0diabetes\u00a0effectively, problems with their immune system, circulation, or both can lead to skin ulcers.<\/li><li><strong>Weakened immune system:<\/strong>\u00a0People may have this if they are older, if they have\u00a0HIV or AIDS, or if they are undergoing\u00a0chemotherapy\u00a0or\u00a0radiotherapy.<\/li><li><strong>Circulatory problems:<\/strong>\u00a0People with poor blood circulation have a higher risk of infection\u00a0spreading\u00a0to deeper layers of the skin.<\/li><li><strong>Recent surgery or injury:<\/strong>\u00a0This increases the risk of infection.<\/li><li><strong>IV drugs:<\/strong>\u00a0Injecting drugs, especially with needles that they have used before, can lead to abscesses and infections under the skin, increasing the risk of cellulitis.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cellulitis is usually\u00a0the result of\u00a0bacteria from the\u00a0Streptococcus\u00a0and\u00a0Staphylococcus\u00a0groups.
