However, your doctor can do\u00a0many different tests\u00a0to rule out other conditions that have symptoms similar to ulcerative colitis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019ll begin by doing a physical exam and taking a health history of your child\u2019s symptoms. They\u2018ll ask what makes the symptoms worse and better, and how long they\u2019ve been taking place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further tests for ulcerative colitis include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>blood tests, including checking for low\u00a0red blood cell levels, which could indicate anemia, and high\u00a0white blood cell levels, which is a sign of an immune system issue<\/li><li>a stool sample to test for the presence of blood, unexpected bacteria, and parasites<\/li><li>an upper or lower endoscopy, also known as a\u00a0colonoscopy, to view or sample the inner portions of the digestive tract to check for signs of inflammation<\/li><li>a\u00a0barium enema, which helps your doctor better view the colon in X-rays and identify possible areas of narrowing or obstruction<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s no one test used to diagnose a child with ulcerative colitis.
