Complications include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Barrett\u2019s esophagus, damage to the lining of your esophagus, which can lead to a precancerous change in the tissue<\/li><li>stricture, or narrowing, of the esophagus that can lead to obstruction and problems swallowing<\/li><li>holes or ulcers in the esophagus (esophageal perforation)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>How is esophagitis diagnosed?<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Make an appointment to see your doctor if you have symptoms esophagitis. Be prepared to provide a full medical history, including any other diagnosed conditions. List all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your doctor will likely perform a physical examination. They may also order diagnostic tests including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>endoscopy\u00a0with biopsies<\/li><li>barium X-ray, also called an upper GI series<\/li><li>allergy testing, which may include skin tests.
