{"id":7635,"date":"2022-09-16T06:30:58","date_gmt":"2022-09-16T06:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mdr.foobrdigital.com\/?p=7635"},"modified":"2022-09-16T06:30:58","modified_gmt":"2022-09-16T06:30:58","slug":"coterminal-angles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mudassirbackup.infinitycodestudio.com\/index.php\/2022\/09\/16\/coterminal-angles\/","title":{"rendered":"Coterminal Angles"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In these lessons, we will look at angles at standard position and coterminal angles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An angle is said to be in&nbsp;<strong>standard position<\/strong>&nbsp;if it is drawn on the Cartesian plane (x-y plane) on the positive x-axis and turning counter-clockwise (anti-clockwise).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>initial side of an angle<\/strong>&nbsp;is the ray where the measurement of an angle starts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>terminal side of an angle<\/strong>&nbsp;is the ray where the measurement of an angle ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Co-terminal angles<\/strong>&nbsp;are angles which when drawn at standard position share a&nbsp;<strong>terminal side<\/strong>. For example, 30\u00b0, -330\u00b0, 390\u00b0 are all coterminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following diagram shows the coterminal angles 30\u00b0, -330\u00b0. Scroll down the page for more examples and solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.onlinemathlearning.com\/image-files\/coterminal-angles.png\" alt=\"Coterminal Angles\" title=\"Coterminal Angles\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We can find the coterminal angles of a given angle by using the following formula:<br>Coterminal angles of a given angle \u03b8 may be obtained by either adding or subtracting a multiple of 360\u00b0 or 2\u03c0 radians.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coterminal of \u03b8 = \u03b8 + 360\u00b0 \u00d7 k &nbsp;if \u03b8 is given in degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coterminal of \u03b8 = \u03b8 + 2\u03c0 \u00d7 k if \u03b8 is given in radians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two angles are coterminal if the difference between them is a multiple of 360\u00b0 or 2\u03c0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><br>Determine if the following pairs of angles are coterminal<br>a) 10\u00b0, 370\u00b0<br>b) \u2013520\u00b0, 200\u00b0<br>c) \u2013600\u00b0, \u201360\u00b0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Solution:<\/strong><br>a) 10\u00b0 \u2013 370\u00b0 = \u2013360\u00b0 = \u20131(360\u00b0), which is a multiple of 360\u00b0<br>So, 10\u00b0 and 370\u00b0 are coterminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) \u2013520\u00b0 \u2013 200\u00b0 = \u2013720\u00b0 = \u20132(360\u00b0), which is a multiple of 360\u00b0<br>So, \u2013520 and 200\u00b0 are coterminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>c) \u2013600\u00b0 \u2013 (\u201360\u00b0) = \u2013540\u00b0, which is not a multiple of 360\u00b0<br>So, \u2013600\u00b0 and \u201360\u00b0 are not coterminal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In these lessons, we will look at angles at standard position and coterminal angles.
